A serious disorder of tomato, pepper, cucumber and eggplant, blossom end rot is an environmental problem not fungal most often caused by uneven watering or by calcium deficiency. These can be related; uneven watering can interfere with the uptake of calcium. Blossom end rot symptoms occur on both green and ripe fruits and is identified by water-soaked areas that gradually widen and mature into sunken, brown, leathery spots on the bottom end.
Right now they are loaded with tons of green tomatoes, and some of them are just starting to blush red. And then three days later, it all goes horribly wrong. There is nothing more disheartening than to see that all of your ripening tomato beauties or peppers or squash are now rotting from the bottom—right on the vine!
The time to harvest luscious, red, vine-ripened, garden tomatoes is upon us! Unfortunately, some gardeners may pluck a red tomato from the vine only to discover that it is brown and rotten on the bottom, or blossom end, of the fruit. Although fungi may sometimes be seen growing on the rotted tissue, the problem is not caused by a pathogen.

This is my first time growing peppers, so I am a total newbie. And all with many peppers on them. This is due to my inexperience with peppers, I'm just unsure of how much water they need.
Who put this disgusting black scab on the bottom of my beautiful tomato? Blossom end rot is caused by two things: a lack of calcium and inconsistent watering. However, you can still save the plant and any remaining tomatoes it produces.
My plants were looking great and still do. I had 2 peppers, but both of them tuned brown and mushy on the bottom. I went ahead and threw them out.
I have a few pepper plants growing at the moment. Two Bell pepper, 1 jalpino, 1 hot banana pepper and 1 sweet banana pepper. My two bell pepper plants the bell peppers start to rot before they have a chance to mature.
